Canadian International Resources and Development Institute is pleased to announce that Elaine Pura has been named Chief Executive Officer by CIRDI’s board, effective immediately.
Ms. Pura has been serving as CIRDI’s interim CEO since April 1, 2018, and is the former Chief Operating Officer and Director of International Programs for the Institute.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to lead the CIRDI team as we strive to generate positive change for and with people in our partner countries,” said Ms. Pura. “CIRDI is poised and ready to move beyond our initial phase funded by Global Affairs Canada and I thank the board for having the confidence in me to lead that transition and growth.”
Before joining CIRDI in 2015, Ms. Pura worked at the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) where she held a variety of high profile positions including Director of Operations for the global Forest and Climate Program of WWF International (2009-2014), and Director of Operations for WWF Canada (2004-2009). Having worked over 20 years in organizational management, Ms. Pura has also been a fisheries researcher, a park ranger and a high school science teacher, among other occupations.
Ms. Pura holds a Masters Certificate in Project Management from the Schulich School of Business at York University and Bachelor’s degrees in Education and Applied Science (Chemical Engineering) from the University of British Columbia.
“In welcoming Ms. Pura to her new role, I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the extensive contributions she has made to CIRDI’s mandate and organizational development, as well as global sustainability issues more broadly,” said Dr. Moura Quayle, Chair of CIRDI’s Board. “I am confident that she will build on her accomplishments as CIRDI’s CEO.”
