Thirty-five delegates from Canada, Indonesia, Brazil, Guyana, Ecuador, Peru, Colombia, Mexico, and New Zealand met for four days in Portovelo, Ecuador in December to learn about the International Training Centre for Artisanal Miners (ITCAM) and how to establish training centres in their home regions.
The ITCAM model is designed to evolve artisanal miners into successful, small-scale mining entrepreneurs who will build and respect environmental, social, health and economic structures in their communities.
