Through CIRDI’s Supporting the Ministry of Mines (SUMM) Ethiopia project, a delegation of twelve representatives from Ethiopia’s Ministry of Mines, Petroleum and Natural Gas and Geological Survey of Ethiopia participated in the Investing in Mining Indaba conference in Cape Town, South Africa, from February 5 – 8, 2018.
Every year this event brings together investors, mining companies, governments and other stakeholders with an interest in mining on the African continent to learn and network.
Through their participation in Indaba, the delegation enhanced the visibility and international exposure of Ethiopia and the SUMM project. The delegation included the State Minister as well as several senior Directors of the Ministry to enhance coordination and knowledge sharing amongst the regional and federal levels of the Ministry.
This conference provided numerous opportunities for the delegation to connect and network with representatives from industry, investors and government across Africa. The delegation brought with them a professional, custom-designed exhibit and promotional material which showcased the reforms underway through the SUMM project, as well as the fact that Ethiopia is an attractive mining jurisdiction for investment. Participation of Ministry officials in internationally recognized mining conferences in a coordinated and targeted manner is a sustainable capacity development strategy of the project.
