On behalf of the Canadian International Resources and Development Institute (CIRDI), and Transparency International Canada (TI-Canada), we are pleased to invite you to participate in a focus group discussion as a part of the research CIRDI is undertaking as part of the Mining for Sustainable Development Program (M4SD) in British Columbia.
Transparency International’s M4SD Program is a global initiative to enhance transparency and accountability in the mining sector that is being implemented by national chapters of TI in 20 resource-rich countries, including Canada. The ultimate objective of the Program is to improve the contribution of mining to sustainable social and economic development.
The Canadian component of the M4SD Program is researching the environmental assessment (EA) processes in Ontario, British Columbia and the Yukon to identify transparency and accountability vulnerabilities and to understand the nature and level of risk in the EA processes. For the British Columbia component of the research, CIRDI is running focus group discussions in Vancouver and conducting in-person interviews in Victoria and the greater Kamloops and Golden Triangle regions.
The research team is inviting you to participate in a 90 -120-minute long focus group discussion will be hosted at CIRDI’s Vancouver office at 1606 – 1166 Alberni Street, and will take place from 11am-1pm on August 22nd and 23rd, 2019. This semi-structured focus group discussion will help inform the research report being developed by CIRDI and TI-Canada.
A light lunch and refreshments will be served, and there is no cost to the event. Please RSVP here.
We expect to register this event with the Law Society of BC (LSBC) so that practicing lawyers in BC will be eligible to obtain two Continuing Professional Development (CPD) credits by participating in this event. The organizers will also seek to have this event eligible to meet the professional responsibility and ethics requirements of the LSBC.
