The Canadian International Resources and Development Institute at the University of British Columbia (Vancouver downtown) seeks a talented Copy Editor to proofread, edit and format the Institute’s knowledge products. CIRDI envisions a world where natural resources are developed sustainably and generate lasting and inclusive benefits for women, men and children in developing countries. The institutional mission is to exchange knowledge and expertise with developing countries that enables leading-practice natural resource governance, environmental stewardship, gender equality and ultimately, poverty reduction.
We are particularly interested in candidates who hold a Bachelor’s degree in a language-related field (English, Literature, Linguistics, Communications), copyediting/proofreading experience, an excellent knowledge of English syntax, usage, spelling and grammar, as well as formatting and typographical rules, keen eye for detail and commitment to quality. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience with editing detailed and factual or technical reports and are familiar with Adobe InDesign software.
The copy editor will be responsible for copyediting, proofreading and formatting English content documents to help ensure high linguistic quality in and consistency of CIRDI’s publications and knowledge products. The responsibilities will also include: checking the content to ensure it is well written and logically structured, correcting grammar and spelling, ensuring the text is in line with CIRDI’s linguistic standards and key messages, and ensuring the final product aligns with CIRDI’s brand standards.
The anticipated start date – March 11, 2019.
This is a part-time contract-based position, and the pay rate commences at 18$/hour.
