Pacific Alliance Extractive Sector Study Tour (March 2015)

CIRDI was engaged by Global Affairs Canada to provide two days of programming for the Pacific Alliance Extractive Sector Study Tour which took place March 12 – 13, 2015. Participants included 10 senior governmental decision-makers, influencers and community leaders from Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru. Programming was designed to strengthen the ability of the Pacific Alliance countries to establish robust operating environments for their mining sectors and included:

• Development and implementation of regulatory frameworks for mining operations
• Community consultation and Indigenous engagement processes
• Local development models around mining communities
• Environmental assessment, land reclamation processes and green mining technologies
• Mine and community safety
• Human resources development, capacity-building, local procurement and supply chains
• Investment attraction and development of shared infrastructure
