Senior Program and Administration Officer, SUMM Ethiopia
With a background in Business, Finance, and Economics, Ms. Rahel Getachew has over 10 years of experience working with the private and public sectors in a number of projects dedicated to advancing sustainable private sector development and good natural resource governance. In particular: a Public-private partnership, Intra-African Trade and Investment, including policy and strategy design to foster sustainable natural resource development, sustainable finance, investment promotion, inclusion and gender equality.
Rahel worked at the Pan African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PACCI) as a Project Coordinator on developmental projects in over 12 industries including the mining sector. Ms. Rahel led and implemented projects that enabled the growth of the private sector in Africa and had a positive impact on the socio-economic development of the continent.
In 2016, Rahel joined the SUMM Ethiopia project as a Project Officer and actively engaged in the project’s inception, implementation plan design and development as well as the successful launch of the project office in Ethiopia. Currently, Rahel is working as a Senior Program and Administration Officer. As part of her portfolio, she is engaged in strategic planning, design, and implementation of programs, field research and capacity-building activities, supervision of the finance team, including budget development and tracking. In addition, Rahel is a technical lead on Artisanal and Small Scale Mining and Gender. She is currently coordinating a Task Force convened to develop a National Artisanal, Special Small Scale National Strategy and Gender Equality Strategy of the Mineral Sector in Ethiopia. The Task Force is comprised of Senior Directorates and Technical Experts of the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum.
Ms. Rahel is also a Youth champion and engaged in professional and leadership development activities that help her reach global platforms and participate in high-level decision-making processes, including a speaker and discussant at the Royal Institute of International Affairs, Chatham House, on a conference entitled “Youth Policy Engagement in the Horn of Africa Region”.
Ms. Rahel has a Master’s degree in MBA from Addis Ababa University, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Bahir Dar University, and a Diploma in Accounting from Unity University.
